iHaryana unveils new Sports Policy, hikes award money

The Haryana Government today unveiled a series of incentives under the new sports policy and announced substantial increase in the award money given to winners of international and national sports events.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar made this announcement while unveiling the new sports policy - 'Haryana Physical Activities and Sports Policy-2015' in a state level function organised here.
These awards would be given to sportspersons for their outstanding performance in sports.
The Olympic and Paralympic gold medal winners from Haryana will now get Rs 6 crore instead of the earlier Rs 5 crore, Rs 4 crore for silver from Rs 3 crore earlier and Rs 2.5 crore for bronze medal as against Rs 2 crore in the past.
The remaining participants of these mega events will now get Rs 15 lakh cash awards as against Rs 11 lakh earlier, the chief minister announced.
The BJP government has also substantially hiked award money for various other events. The Asian Games gold medallists will now get Rs 3 crore, silver winning ones will get Rs 1.5 crore and bronze winners will get Rs 75 lakh as against Rs 2 cr, Rs 1 cr and Rs 50 lakh, respectively, earlier.
The Commonwealth Games gold medal winners will now get Rs 1.5 crore as against Rs 1 crore, silver winners will get Rs 75 lakh as against Rs 50 lakh and bronze medal winners will get Rs 50 lakh instead of Rs 25 lakh given earlier.
World Cup/World Championship winners also stand to gain, with award money hiked to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 10 lakh earlier for gold, Rs 15 lakh for silver from Rs 8 lakh earlier and Rs 10 lakh for bronze from Rs 6 lakh earlier.
Substantial increase in the award money has also been made for various other sports competitions including World University Games, Youth Olympic Games, National School Games, All India University Tournaments, World Marathon for Mentally Challenged, among other events.
As far as eligibility and conditions for cash award are concerned, the sportspersons should have represented the state of Haryana in the national team, in case of national level competitions.
Players will be given awards for the performance of preceding financial year only. No award for past performance or achievements will be considered, according to an official release.
The cash award will only be given to those sportspersons who has represented the state of Haryana in any sports. The sportspersons or their parents should be residents of Haryana.
