The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) has introduced a one-year residential Post-Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management (PGCHM), tailor-made for the healthcare practitioners and administrators.
The PGCHM is designed to impart cutting edge management education to trained healthcare professionals from varying domains.
The programme combines classroom-based academic modules with hands-on experience through industry immersion programme.
It draws upon a reputed network of healthcare service providers for an effective delivery of the programme in both its dimensions - the academic and the field-based learning.
The objectives of PGCHM are to develop interdisciplinary orientation towards management of healthcare besides, delivering customised management education to healthcare professionals.
Under the programme, participants will be trained in managerial leadership, familiarised with innovation and entrepreneurship in Indian healthcare sector.
It will also sensitise them with the macro policy context, both global and national, and inculcate comparative framework specifically in relations to healthcare challenges of developing countries.
The programme design consists of two main components - classroom-based on-campus teaching and capstone projects, and off-campus industry immersion.
The programme faculty includes the IIM Calcutta faculty as well as reputed professionals from the healthcare industry.
Medical practitioners and administrators with
MBBS/BDS/BAMS degree or equivalent recognised by UGC/AICTE/MCI and students having degrees in pharmacy, biotechnology and life sciences are eligible to apply.
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience in the healthcare sector by the start of the programme.
The first batch will commence next April.
"The PGCHM aims at augmenting the grossly inadequate availability of healthcare management professionals formally trained in fundamentals of management principles and practices necessary to meet the challenges the profession demands.
"The PGCHM programme of IIM Calcutta has been conceived to blend the domain realities with complementary academic inputs to take the challenge," said IIM Calcutta New Initiatives & External Relations Dean Professor Uttam Kumar Sarkar.
