Indian Institute of Management- Kozhikode, will be hosting the four-day 'Second Pan-IIM World Management Conference from November 5, the theme of which is 'Globalising Indian Thought.'
The conference, supported by the Human Resource Development Ministry, is being collectively organised by 13 IIMs, an IIM-K press release said.
The theme of the conference emphasises the Indian management approaches that have found international recognition in recent times.
Indian businesses have evolved their own management styles such as 'Jugaad innovation' and India as a country has a rich legacy of its original science such as yoga, ayurveda, vastushastra, and these practices and techniques have caught global attention, it said.
The conference aims at bringing together global scholars to one of the fastest growing economies of the world to deliberate on issues that impact global management thoughts in the years to come.
Prof Kulbhushan Balooni, Director, IIM Kozhikode said "IIMs have different functional and sectoral expertise, region specific industry access and clout, and understanding of local practices.
"Collectively IIMs can emerge as a formidable force in exploring newer frontiers of management science. The west is increasingly interested today in decoding the phenomena in the emerging markets."
Besides IIM professors, the conference organisers have invited experts from Wharton Business School, ESCP Paris, policy makers and leaders from domestic industry who would share Indian management thinking and how it can impact global businesses.
Prof Saji Gopinath, Conference Co-chair and Dean Academic, IIM Kozhikode, said, the time for IIMs has come to not only provide talent to the world but also shape future management thinking by producing world-class research.
Apart from the Common Admission Test, this is another big platform that brings all IIMs together. As the number of IIMs is reaching a critical mass, it is time for these institutions to think how the brand IIM can be leveraged to make a global impact, he said.
