Students of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) have urged Union Minister Arun Jaitley to intervene to ensure there is no further delay in holding the convocation and distribution of original certificates as it was causing hardship to them.
In a petition to Jaitley, who holds the Information and Broadcasting portfolio, the students said that the convocation ceremony was held each year in late October or November but it is not the case this time "apparently because of the delay in taking decision about appointment of new Director General".
With convocation not taking place, the institute's authorities are not ready to distribute original certificates for the students of the last batch, which is causing several problems, the students said.
"We request you to understand the situation and take an immediate action to organise convocation and speed up appointment of DG. We hope you will not forget the fact that future of hundreds of students is in your hands," said the petition signed by over 100 students and alumni.
The term of the previous IIMC DG Sunit Tandon had ended in November last year.
"There are many students who have been working hard to get admission for foreign studies and IIMC was inevitable for them to show 4-year undergraduation (3+1)," the letter to Jaitley said, adding that students fear they would fail to meet requirements of foreign universities due to the delay.
Many Indian universities, the petition said, allow IIMC students to join final year postgraduate studies for which several students have applied and paid fees, expecting IIMC would distribute original certificates by November 2015.
