The Delhi High court today sought a response from the city government, civic body and the police on a plea seeking a ban on slaughter houses operating illegally in residential areas of north Delhi.
A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath issued notices and asked the authorities concerned to file the responses within two weeks regarding steps taken in the matter.
The bench was hearing a plea filed by NGO Help Indian Against Corruption, which sought action against officials who are looking after the area and allegedly allowing the slaughtering of animals in Kasab Pura area of North Delhi.
The petition claimed that the court had in 2009 ordered closure of such slaughter houses due to various reasons. The bench will now hear the matter on September 2.
The plea has also sought appointment of an investigating team to probe the alleged involvement of officials and take action against them according to law.
"Despite the orders of closure of said slaughter house, slaughtering work is still going on illegally at Idgah, Kasab Pura, Delhi, at different places in the said residential locality surreptitiously late in the night in connivance with authorities, i.E., North Delhi Municipal Corporation and officials of Sadar Bazaar police station," advocate Narendra Sharma, appearing for the NGO, said.
He claimed that the officials have full knowledge of the illegal slaughtering of animals in the above-said locality.
The petitioner also submitted before the court some photographs and video-graphs and claimed these have proofs of dumping of waste and loading of raw meat in the vehicles in the residential area.
