With the arrest of 12 persons, Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a racket that allegedly used to arrange forged immigration related documents and send persons to middle east nations.
The presence of the racket came to light on September 18 when nine persons, aged between 22 and 31 years, were stopped at IGI Airport at the Immigration Check Point and later their Protector of Emigrants Certificates (PEC) turned out to be fake, said DCP (IGI) Dinesh Kumar Gupta.
When they were questioned, they told the police that they had paid around Rs 85,000 each to a Morabad-based agent, said Gupta.
All nine of them - identified as Zakir, Kalam, Laik, Raja, Akbar, Ishmail, Mubeen, Gufran and Tanda - were arrested by the police.
A police team was sent to Moradabad and soon one of the agents, identified as Zakir Pasha (45), landed in the police dragnet. Later, the police also nabbed Pasha's associates Sailesh Singh and Irfan Ali, said a senior official.
During interrogation , it emerged that Sailesh Singh was the main agent who headed over Pasha and Ali.
The trio also told the police that they were involved in the business of sending people to middle east nations, to serve there as immigrant labourers, with forged documents, said the officer.
They have been booked under Sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document of electronic record) of IPC.
Further investigation is underway and the police are looking for other members of the racket, the senior officer added.
