Include sports facilities in Smart City blueprint: Sonowal

Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today urged the Union Urban Development Minister to make provision of adequate sports facilities, playgrounds, athletic tracks, fitness and recreation centres while preparing blueprint for 100 Smart Cities in India.
In a letter to M Venkaiah Naidu, the Sports Minister said Smart Cities should also have world class sports and fitness centres and sufficient numbers of play fields as these are "essential to a healthy and fit population".
Sonowal is of the view that India urgently need to invest in sports, fitness and recreation facilities.
