"There is no report of any untoward incident from any part of the Valley," a police spokesman said.
He said the functions in all districts of the Valley concluded peacefully and a large number of people participated in the celebrations.
Authorities had put up stringent security arrangements across Kashmir in view of series of militant attacks on security forces in the valley ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
Restrictions were imposed in five police station areas of the interior city here to maintain law and order.
Security forces had established temporary barricades at other places in the city and elsewhere in the valley to check movement of militants, who might have tried to disrupt the official functions.
A thick security blanket had been thrown around vital installations including Bakshi Stadium, where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unfurled the tricolor.
Similar functions were held at all the district headquarters, where senior ministers of the coalition government unfurled the flag and took salute.
