Pal, Independent candidate contesting from the Ward No 23 of Baidyabati Municipality and his followers blocked the GT Road near the Sheorphuli Outppost alleging police atrocities.
Pal, who is a former Trinamool Congress Councillor of Baidyabati Municipality but was denied ticket by the party this time alleged that the police was harassing his supporters and arrested one his supporters Asit Das in a "false" arms case last night.
Inspector-in Charge of Serampore police station P Bakshi denied the allegations of Pal and said Das was arrested based on a particular complaint against him.
