India gives Rs 35.7 mn aid for schools, hospital in Nepal

India has provided Rs 35.7 million as financial assistance for the construction of two schools and a hospital in Nepal under a bilateral economic cooperation programme.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae yesterday inaugurated the newly-constructed school building for Shree Sharda Higher Secondary School, among the oldest government- recognised schools in the district.
The building constructed under Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme with an Indian assistance of 19.12 million Nepali rupees in Deurali village of Bhojpur district will help create better facilities for over 700 students, 55 per cent of whom are girls, according to an Indian Embassy press release.
The assistance would help in creating improved environment for learning and contribute towards development of education in the district, the release said.
Besides, a school building for Shree Bhimodaya Higher Secondary School is being constructed under Indian assistance at the cost of 11.4 million Nepali rupees and work is underway for the construction of a 15-bed hospital building at Dingla village in Bhojpur district situated in eastern Nepal with an assistance of 26.6 million Nepali rupees.
Underlining the importance of strengthening of educational infrastructure for Nepal's overall development, Ambassador Rae in his address expressed hope that various educational projects being executed or completed under the cooperation programme will help the people of Nepal in their quest for peace and prosperity.
Recognising the importance of accelerating growth in Nepal, India remains committed to rendering all possible assistance in that direction, the release said.
The India-Nepal Economic Programme has an outlay of over 65 billion Nepali rupees with more than 475 large and small development projects completed or currently being implemented in almost all the districts of Nepal.
These development projects mainly in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development have been undertaken in response to local needs, and in partnership with the Government of Nepal, it said.
