India, Maldives sign MoU for building police institute

The MoU was signed by visiting Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and his Maldivian counterpart Mohamed Jameel Ahmed at Bandos Island Resort on the sidelines of the 5th meeting of the SAARC Interior/Home Ministers.

The Institute for Security and Law Enforcement Studies (ISLES), which is expected to cost USD 18.3 million, will replace the former Police Academy.

At the Police Academy, Maldives Police Service staff used to undergo Police Professional Skills Training as part of a certificate-level course.

With the creation of the new institute, diploma and degree courses will commence for all security personnel.

At the institute, which is being build at the Island of Dhiffushimaadhoo of Lhaviyani Atoll, the Indian, Scottish and Australian training will be given.
