Kiran Patel has named professional American football team San Francisco 49ers and the companies that run California's Levi's stadium in Santa Clara in the lawsuit.
He has charged them with inadequate security that contributed to the attack on him by drunken, violent fans.
Last year, Patel became victim of a vicious restroom beating during a San Francisco 49ers game at Levi's Stadium.
He had suffered a "severe traumatic brain injury" when he and his cousin were ganged up on by two brothers just before a game against the Kansas City Chiefs at the new stadium, his attorney William Smith said.
Patel and his cousin, Amish Patel are seeking unspecified damages against the companies that operate the stadium, saying security was inadequate to protect patrons from drunken, violent fans.
Moreover, the stadium failed to provide safety for fans "in unsupervised or low security areas, such as men's restrooms," Smith wrote in a complaint filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court.
Kiran Patel suffered a traumatic brain injury from which he is still recovering, Smith said. Patel was hospitalised for several weeks, during which he had bleeding on the brain and underwent surgery to remove part of his skull to relieve swelling.
Two accused were were sentenced to up to five years in state prison in this regard.
