Coast Guard ship 'Vajra' has intercepted a Sri Lankan fishing boat Ran Muttu Dua, after it was found fishing within Indian waters.
The Lankan boat, laden with four tonnes of tuna fish, was found fishing in the Bay of Bengal in Position 195 nautical miles south east of Digha and 192 miles east of Paradip yesterday, a Coast Guard release said.
Preliminary probe revealed that the fishing boat belonged to Matara district in the South province of Sri Lanka and had set forth on February 17.
The Sri Lankan boat is a specialised vessel for catching Oceanic Tuna fishes, a particular variety of fish (tuna) having huge demand in international market.
The boat, with four crew members, was being towed away to Paradip.
