Indian diplomats in China celebrate Constitution Day

India today celebrated the Constitution Day here with young IFS officers enacting a play on the formation and implementation of the Indian Constitution granting universal franchise.
The embassy held a meeting at its premises to highlight the services of Dr B R Ambedkar in drafting the Constitution of India and his contribution to building modern India.
Speaking at the meeting Deputy Ambassador, Amit Narang, said the constitution marked a silent revolution preserving the dignity and unity of India.
While it took 131 years for the US to grant voting rights for women, the Indian constitution provided equal rights to all citizens irrespective race, religion and gender.

The highlight of the meeting was a play on the constitution formation staged by young IFS officers who are currently studying Chinese language before taking up their assignments.
The officers, Vivekanand TS Pratik Negi, Deepak Padmakumar Ajith John Joshua, Gautam Kumar Pandey, Nikhil MV, Aravind J Saloni Sahai, Aniket Patankar, Pankaj Phukan took part in the play with Anupama Singh as master of ceremonies.

The play outlined the formation of the Indian constitution, its salient features and importance of granting universal suffrage which brought about a sense of equality in India after decades of independence movement.
For the first time in its history, the Indian embassy here has the highest number of 15 young officers who are studying Chinese language.

Officials said the numbers young IFS officers specialising in China and Chinese studies is on the rise which also reflects the importance India attaching to its engagement with China.
Today's meeting also included screenings of small video films depicting the interactions of the members of the Indian Constituent Assembly.
