Additional Chief Secretary Gujarat Home department Sudeep Kumar Nanda told PTI that the fisherman, identified as Bala Naran Singad, a native of Sonari village in Una taluka of Junagarh district died in a jail in Karachi on July 25 and his body has been kept at the Edhi Centre there.
"We will try our best to get back the body at the earliest. We will be sending a consent letter from family members of deceased to Pakistan through Union Home and External Affairs Ministry," Nanda said.
Meanwhile, President of Pakistan Fish Workers Forum Mohammed Ali Shah told PTI over phone from Karachi that it was the responsibility of Indian High Commission in Islamabad to complete the required formalities for sending the body to Gujarat.
This is the third death of an Indian fisherman since December last year in Pakistan.
