An Indian national was found guilty today of failing to disperse from a riot scene despite police orders in Singapore's Little India precinct, becoming the last of the 25 men charged for their role in the country's worst riots in 40 years.
Arun Kaliamurthy, who has a master's degree in information systems and was looking for a job here, had claimed trial to a single charge of failing to disperse from the riot scene despite police orders to do so.
The 29-year-old will be sentenced by District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan on June 2, The Straits Times reported.
Twenty-five Indians were charged with rioting.
A few, including Kaliamurthy, had their charges amended to failure to disperse and obstruction.
All the others have been convicted and sentenced to jail and some with caning.
The December 2013 riot was sparked by a fatal accident involving an Indian natonal working here.
Fifty-eight police and defence officers were injured and 23 emergency vehicles damaged in the riot in Little India, a precinct of Indian origin shops, businesses, pubs, eateries, hotels and motels.
