The Indian maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industry faces significant challenges due to issues such as taxes and lack of infrastructure, said American Chamber (Amcham) of Commerce in India's Executive Director Ajay Singha.
Indian MRO industry is fragmented and lacks large players with an end-to-end services portfolio, Singha said in a press release issued here today, by Amcham India.
"Currently, the Indian MRO industry faces significant challenges. Factors such as unfriendly taxation structure, cumbersome procedures for import of components and movement of foreign experts, lack of scale and adequate infrastructure are some of issues confronting the industry," Singha said.
The trade body would continue to work with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, FICCI and other leading industry bodies to create a globally competitive aviation sector in India, the release said.
Singha noted that Amcham's Aviation Committee led several successful delegations to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation in the past and deliberated with stakeholders and US industry on MROs, regional connectivity and low cost airports.
Amcham India is expected to lead some big US majors in the aviation sector to India Aviation-2014 which would begin here from tomorrow.
The delegation would discuss their capabilities to help modernise India's civil aviation and capacity building requirements as well as US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA's) role in assisting US exports for India's aviation sector.
The Chamber plans to host an exclusive interactive session for top US aviation majors in the country, with senior representatives from the US Embassy, USTDA and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) tomorrow.
