Indians add silver and bronze in Asian Youth Games

India added a silver and a bronze to swell their medal tally to six in their controversy-ridden Asian Youth Games campaign on the fifth day of the multi-sporting event, here today.
Manu Gandas bagged the silver in golf while Saroj Ajay Kumar bagged a bronze in 1500m race to give some cheers to the Indians whose campaign was embroiled in overage issue leading to the disqualification of 18 track and field athletes and three weightlifters.
Four badminton players were also thrown out after their entries were sent late by federation officials.
Gandas ended with a three-round total of 11-under 205 to finish second behind Yu Chun-An (13-under 203) of Chinese Taipei in the men's individual stroke play at the Zhongshan International Golf Club.
Boonma Danthai of Thailand was third in nine-under 207.
In women's individual stroke play, Ashok Aditi finished 10th.
Ajay Kumar clocked 4:05.76 to finish third behind Wang Wei (4:03.75) of China and Assadi Zakalaki Ata (4:05.09) of Iran at the Nanjing OSC Stadium.
In girls 100m hurdles, Ankita Sunil Gosavi qualified for the final round after finishing second in her heat in 14.60secs.
Indians, who are participating as Independent Olympic Athletes as the IOA is serving a ban, have won one gold, one silver and four bronze to occupy 11th spot in the medal tally.
