Ace designer Tarun Tahiliani took inspiration from two Indo-British painters for his collection 'Past Modern', an amalgamation of heritage and contemporary style, at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Spring Summer 2015.
The designer took to his muses, Amrit and Ravindra Singh, twin sisters who are known for combining elements from Mughal era with those of modern times and also bringing British and Indian culture to the canvas.
Be it colourful scarves with ancient designs and monument prints worn as turbans, or multi-coloured dhoti sarees accessorized with goggles, Tahiliani's collection juxtaposed the old and the contemporary and oozed a bohemian nature.
"The inspirations are the Singh Twins, these two artistes who revive the technique of miniature paintings and juxtaposing it with modern iconography, which creates vibrant and detailed work," the designer said, adding that he especially took the colour palette from the two painters' work.
The Singh Twins, who met Tahiliani in 2003 in Delhi, were naturally thrilled with the collaboration with one of India's leading designers.
"We feel great that we could influence Tarun. He has come up with this beautiful line. The collection rightly interprets our work, which is combining different elements from various parts of the world. We met him in 2003 and he loved our work and proposed the idea of collaboration. It was in recent years that he started working on it," the two artistes said.
