The Alumni association of a reputed educational institution here today came up with a unique initiative -- the Param Tyag Chakra -- to honour family members of brave military men, who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Noting that at present there is no ready list of the details of the family members of the martyrs, the Alumni Association of Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology in association with the management and students launched a web platform aimed at collecting the details of these family members.
"We are looking forward to mobilise the activity through all possible channels in the society," said Rijin John, president of the Alumni Association after launching the web application http://www.Paramtyagchakra.Org/.
The Association said this initiative is a call to the civilian society to rise up to honour such families and if possible offer support to the needy members.
"Everyone including the general public, the government, corporates, the media...Can join this initiative in multiple ways like identifying and referring such families, channeling the support required for them etc," he said.
The Association said it aims to build this as a national level initiative, and to cover as many as possible.
The initiative is planned in multiple phases.
"The idea is to start the first phase as part of the Independence Day, and we hope that we will start getting responses from the citizens by giving references to this database before the Independence Day itself."
"This is a long journey, but we shall consider this well begun if at least one such family gets honoured at the next year's Independence Day," the Association said.
