The North Goa district administration has begun its inquiry into the alleged molestation of a 32-year-old Russian woman by a senior doctor working with the Goa Medical College and Hospital here.
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had yesterday ordered an inquiry into the incident, which is being conducted by District Collector Nila Mohanan.
Sources said that Mohanan this morning summoned the lawyer for Russian Consulate, Vikram Varma who produced all the evidence in connection with the case.
The evidence included the statement by a Russian interpreter who had accompanied the victim in GMCH, where the doctor allegedly molested her.
The foreign national who was molested on Baga beach on October 17, had alleged that she was again molested during a medical examination by a senior GMCH doctor on October 18.
The woman had alleged that even though she had complained to the police about the molestation and not rape, the doctor, during the medical examination, touched her private parts and also insisted for gyneacological tests.
In a complaint to Russian Consulate, the woman said she refused unwarranted gynecological examinations on her.
Varma told PTI that the Russian Consulate has been monitoring the probe into the incident on day-to-day basis, and has faith in the state government.
He said the news about molestation has been picked up in a big way by social media in Russia, which is likely to dampen the prospects of high number of tourists visiting from that country to Goa.
"There are concerns raised through Russian social media and mainstream media. This might result in reduction in tourists to certain extent," Varma said.
Russians are the largest number of foreigners who visit Goa, surpassing the traditional British visitors.
The victim, who had come to Goa for vacation, has already left the state. She was allegedly molested and robbed by an unknown man on Baga beach here on the midnight of October 17 when she was with her female friend.
