An Inspector and three constables were suspended for allegedly assaulting two women on the suspicion of indulging in prostitution and other offenses, an incident which was caught on camera.
As the video of police personnel beating the women went viral, Belagavi Police Chief Ravi S suspended three constables and an Inspector yesterday.
He also ordered disciplinary action against an ASI (Assistant Sub-Inspector) and two women constables for not stopping their colleagues from beating the women.
The incident occurred on the evening of September 4 when the women tried to resist police as they tried to pick them up on suspicion at Ganapati Galli area, Ravi said.
"I was shocked looking at the video. It is an unforgivable act," he added.
