Intelligentsia has always supported Cong: Singhvi

Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi today said the intelligentsia has always supported the party as it has worked for the uplift of all sections of society.
Addressing a conference of the lawyers and human rights cell of the party here, Singhvi said advocates and intellectual have supported the party immensely.
"The Congress-led UPA government has not only worked to make the country prosperous and powerful during its tenure but has also worked to ensure that common man have right to education, medical health, employment and food," he said.
"Congress has always worked for the uplift of labourers, poor and ordinary masses," he said, recalling how former Prime Ministers Lal Bahadur Shastri and Rajiv Gandhi contributed towards making the country sustainable in the field of foodgrain production and communications which have proved to be important in the development of the country.
Presiding over the conference, senior leader and Supreme Court counsel S C Maheshwari said the right to information for ensuring public participation has been provided by the Congress.
"Whenever Congress has taken a step in national interest, opposition parties have always opposed it. Congress works to connect people whereas BJP indulges in politics of hate by spreading communal and casteist hatred," Maheshwari said.
