Dense fog prevailed in various parts of the two states hitting train and flight schedules as many of them were either cancelled or delayed by several hours because of low visibility.
Road traffic was also affected because of fog enveloping various cities, causing inconvenience to commuters.
The Met department in its forecast said that foggy weather conditions along with partly cloudy sky would continue to prevail in various parts of Punjab and Haryana, though the weather would mainly remain dry.
Despite an intense cold wave, minimum temperature in some parts of Punjab and Haryana rose by upto four notches above normal.
Narnaul in Haryana continued to remain the coldest place in the region as it recorded minimum of 2.2 degrees C, dropping by four notches below normal, the Met office said here today.
Hisar had a low of 3.5 degrees Celsius, dipping by three degrees below normal while Bhiwani, Karnal and Ambala had a minimum of 5.6 degrees Celsius, 7.2 degrees Celsius and 8.8 degrees Celsius respectively.
Chandigarh recorded a minimum of 9.4 deg C, up by three degress above normal.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded mercury at 6.8 deg C, up by 4 notches above normal. Ludhiana and Patiala had a low of 8.2 deg C and 7.6 deg C. Respectively.
However, maximum temperature in the region yesterday went down sharply by up to 12 degrees below normal. Karnal in Haryana had a maximum of 9.5 deg C, down by 12 degrees below normal. Ambala too had maximum of 11.4 deg C which was 10 degrees.
