The accused Gurnam Singh and Dilbagh Singh were arrested yesterday by a Special Cell team of Delhi Police near Singhu Border after a high speed chase beginning from Dwarka, Sanjiv Kumar, DCP (Special Cell) said.
"The arrested accused are part of an international drug cartel that spreads from Afghanistan, Pakistan to India and also involves some African nationals," he said.
Two kg of high-grade heroin worth Rs 8 crore in the international market was recovered from them. An amount of Rs 20 lakh obtained from the sale of drugs was also recovered from, he said.
It was also found out that the drug traffickers will be driving an i-20 car with a Haryana registration number.
A trap was laid at the designated spot, however the accused fled after a quick exchange of the consignment sensing police presence.
Teams of police tailed the car and after a high speed chase intercepted them near the Singhu Border and overpowered them after a scuffle, Yadav said.
The i-20 car recovered from them was registered in the name of Dilbagh's father Balwinder Singh who is presently lodged in Tihar jail, he said.
During interrogation, the duo told police that get supply of heroin from African drug traffickers residing in Dwarka. They also disclosed that these suppliers procured heroin from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
"Heroin is brought from Afghanistan and Pakistan by carriers who consume insoluble capsules of the drug. These carriers after landing in India flush the insoluble capsule out and supply it to drug dealers in Delhi and Punjab.
The accused also disclosed that due to the Assembly elections in Punjab, there is an acute shortage of drugs. After the elections, both of them had allegedly collected 4 big consignments of heroin from their supplier in Dwarka.
Gurnaam was also arrested last year in a case under the NDPS Act in Kapurthala, Punjab. Dilbagh's father Balwinder was earlier arrested by the Special Cell in the month of July last year.
He was arrested along with his two associates including a Nigerian national Micheal Chinedu and four kg of heroin was recovered from them, Yadav said.
