"Introduction of Euro VI fuel from 2017 in Delhi may not be"

Hours after Delhi Government announced pre-poning cut-off date for implementation of Euro-VI emission norms, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar questioned the decision, indicating its enforcement was not possible.
"Delhi government does not have its own fuel. If they have some factory or some good idea to convert it by magic to Euro VI, all the best," the minister said.
The Centre had decided to introduce Euro V and VI emission standards in vehicles in a phased manner.
Currently, BS-IV auto fuels are being supplied in over 30 cities including Delhi. The rest of the country has BS-III grade fuel.
From April 1, 2016, all of Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha, Union Territories of Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Andaman & Nicobar will get BS-IV fuel. The rest of the country will get supplies of BS-IV fuel from April 1, 2017.

Standards, with the launch of BS-IV technology by 2017, BS-V by 2019 and BS-VI by 2021," the minister said.
While announcing a slew of measures to cut vehicular pollution in the city, the Delhi Government had said it will make mandatory introduction of Euro-VI by 2017.
"The Delhi government has decided to pre-pone it (implementation of Euro VI) to Jan 1, 2017. Delhi government will make all efforts to meet this new self-imposed deadline," said Delhi Chief Secretary K K Sharma.
