Involving youth in sports to keep them away from drugs: JK

The Jammu and Kashmir Police is involving youth of the border Rajouri district in sports activities to prevent them from falling prey to drugs, a spokesman said.
Sports tournaments under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) arebeing regularly organised in the district in this regard, he said.
The spokesman said a target of four visits by police officers in the educational institutions have been fixed in a month for creating awareness about the ill effects of the drug abuse among the students.
Around 55 persons have been arrested and 35 casse registered by the Rajouri police during its drive against drugs in the district this year.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police DGP S P Vaid today hailed the Rajouri police for their drive against the drug menace in the disrict.
"The DGP appreciated and rewarded the team comprising 11 officers of Rajouri police for their pro-active drive against drugsin the district," the spokesman said.
Vaid, while sanctioning the award of Rs 45,000 and class-I commendation certificate for the anti-drug team, hoped that the Rajouripolice would continue the drive with more intensity and commitment so that the menace is whipped out from the district.
During the drive more than 147 kgs of bhang, 2.160 grams of brown sugar, 600 grams of opium, 6.700 grams of ganja, 3,936 intoxicant capsules, 631 grams of charas, 190 tablets and 82 injections were seized by the team, the spokesman said.
The Rajouri police has recently initiated profiling the drug peddlers and increased effortswere being made to know deeper about the modus operandi adopted by them, he added.
