The top cop will assume the post on Sunday.
According to an official release, Chief Minister K Chnadrasekhar Rao today cleared the file pertaining to Reddy's appointment as in-charge DGP.
Reddy, a 1986 batch IPS officer, is currently Hyderabad city police commissioner.
The incumbent DGP Anurag Sharma is scheduled to retire on November 12.
Sharma will be appointed as an advisor to the government post his retirement, the release said.
Another IPS officer V V Srinivas Rao has been named in -charge Hyderabad police commissioner.
