Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Irani today inaugurated the 42nd edition IHGF-Delhi Fair Autumn 2016 at India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida.
The handicraft fair is being organised by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) on October 14-18.
Irani seemed impressed by the state-of-the art exhibition centre constructed in Greater Noida with world-class facilities. This is her first visit to this centre.
She commended the council's efforts in creating infrastructure that not only helped handicraft exporters but provided jobs to many directly or indirectly in the country.
"Artisans and craftpersons are the backbone of the handicraft sector and should be provided all assistance with regard to design intervention and technology to create marketing platform for their products," the minister said.
She called upon Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Tourism and Culture, who was present at the function, to help establish souvenir shops at ASI monuments in which products made by artisans and craftsmen can be sold.
