Another police officer said another bombing, of a security patrol today, killed four soldiers and wounded three in the town of Khalis, about 80 kilometres north of Baghdad.
Two medical officials confirmed the causality figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to release information.
Violence in Iraq has been on rise since last year, which was the bloodiest since the worst of the country's sectarian bloodletting began to subside in 2008.
