'Iron Man 3' posts second best opening with USD 175 million

Disney and Marvel's superhero franchise 'Iron Man 3' has pulled off the second biggest domestic opening with an overhaul of USD 175. 3 millions this weekend, second only to the USD 207.4 million of Marvel's previous release 'The Avengers'.
The latest outing of Tony Stark aka Iron Man grossed USD 175.9 million in its second weekend, putting the 3D movie's international total at USD 504.8 million and early worldwide haul at USD 680.1 million.
Internationally too the film remains strong. China leads with a whopping USD 63.5 million, the top opening of all time for a Marvel film, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The film sees the return of Robert Downey Jr as the superhero while Gwyneth Paltrow was back as Stark's girlfriend Pepper Potts and Don Cheadle as James Rhodes.
Actor Ben Kingsley is the main antagonist as The Mandarine besides Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall.
The film's release has impacted the other releases. Michael Bay's 'Pain and Gain' fell 63 per cent in its second weekend to second place with USD 7.6 million for a 10-day domestic total of USD 33.9 million.
Tom Cruise starrer 'Oblivion' fell 67 per cent in its third weekend to USD 5.8 million for a domestic earning of USD 76 million. 'Oblivion' earned USD 6.5 million overseas from 61 markets for a worldwide haul of USD 222.8 million.
