Opposition BJP today questioned if suspension of Patna Municipal Corporation Commissioner was an act of revenge by Urban Development Minister Samrat Chaudhary as the official had acted against his father for illegally selling government land.
"PMC Commissioner Kuldip Narayan as District Magistrate of Munger had acted against Urban Development Minister's father Shakuni Chaudhary for illegally selling 1.4 acre land the government had given him as ex-serviceman in 1971-72. Has the minister got him suspended to avenge this?" senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said in a statement.
On the direction of the Patna High Court, Narayan as the DM of Munger had re-opened the case and acted against the minister's father, he said.
Shakuni Chaudhary served as minister in RJD government in the past. He switched sides to JD(U) recently along with his son Samrat Chaudhary, who was made a minister in the Jitan Ram Manjhi government.
"Immediately after becoming minister in August, the minister acted against the commissioner," he alleged.
The minister tried to divide PMC into two parts and shunt Narayan in the Patna Planning Authority which has not yet been constituted, Modi said.
Modi, the Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council, alleged that PMC Commissioner's suspension was the result of "nexus" between the state government and land mafias.
After getting Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's nod, the state government on Friday night suspended Narayan on the charge of inefficiency.
