Two policemen were killed yesterday by militants in the restive North Sinai province, the interior ministry said.
The jihadist group claimed the killings on a Twitter account affiliated to it, according to the SITE Intelligence Group.
In another incident, militants shot a policeman in Fayyoum city which injured him. He was shot while returning home and is in critical condition, a security official said.
Egypt has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the January 2011 revolution that toppled the former president Hosni Mubarak.
Over 600 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
The military has launched security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished houses that belong to terrorists, including those facilitating tunnels leading to the Gaza Strip.
