Johnny Depp has opened up about his break-up from longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, saying their last couple of years together "have been a bit bumpy".
The 50-year-old actor broke up with Paradis last year after 14-years together. The couple have two children -- daughter Lily-Rose, 14, and son John "Jack", 11.
Depp's romance with his 'Rum Diary' co-star Amber Heard, 27, is said to be the cause behind his split with Paradis but in an interview to Rolling Stone magazine the actor reveals that things were not going well between him and the French actress for a while.
"The last couple years have been a bit bumpy. At times, certainly unpleasant, but that's the nature of breakups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved.
"Relationships are very difficult. Especially in the racket that I'm in because you're constantly away or they're away and so it's hard. It wasn't easy on her. It wasn't easy on me. It wasn't easy on the kids. So, yeah. The trajectory of that relationship -- you play it out until it goes, one thing leads to another," Depp said.
The 'Lone Ranger' star believes his children have been "incredibly understanding, incredibly strong" about the split.
Depp, who appears on the cover page of the magazine, also spoke about his desire to retire from acting someday.
"I can't say that I'd want to be doing this for another 10 years," he says, adding that he wants to be able to do things while he has the "opportunity and the desire and the creative spark" to do so.
