An Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawan was allegedly killed when his service rifle went off accidentally during an anti-naxal operation in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, police said today.
Constable Arshad Ali, belonging to ITBP's 46th battalion, died in accidental discharge of fire from his service rifle last evening while a team of paramilitary force was out on an area domination operation near its Basing camp, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh told PTI over phone.
The jawan was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead, he added.
Basing is located under Kursunar police station limits, around 300 kms away from here.
The remains of the soldier were sent to his native place in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh after post-mortem this evening, the SP said.
