Because of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) keeping the eastern flanks secure along with the army, Assam could march on the road of progress, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said today.
"It is because of the vital role played by the ITBP, army, paramilitary forces and police personnel that our country is secure and safe", Gogoi said laying the foundation stone of the office and residential complex of the Sector headquarters of ITBP at Rangamati near here.
"The present situation of Assam is peaceful in comparison to other states of the country. Without peace, development cannot be achieved and security forces like Army, ITBP, state police and other paramilitary forces have played a vital role", Gogoi recalled.
Referring to the recent Uttarakhand tragedy, Gogoi appreciated the role played by the ITBP Jawans during the crucial moment faced by the nation.
"It has been possible only because of the positive role played by the Congress government and in cooperation with the police and the security forces", he asserted.
Later talking to the media, Gogoi assured employment will be given on top priority in the proposed ITBP project to the land donor family.
He also announced that Rs ten lakh each would be given to the next of kin of the ITBP jawan from Assam killed during rescue operations in Uttarakhand and the Jawan from Udalguri in the state killed in the recent J-K militant attack.
The proposed ITBP Sector Headquarters on 71 acre is estimated to cost Rs 54 crore, Project Coordinator Bajranga Lal Bengani added.
