A comprehensive marketing strategy is under formulation to utilise fully the upcoming modern convention and exhibition centre at Pragati Maidan here, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) CMD L C Goyal said.
Set up in 1977, ITPO is the nodal trade promotion agency which works under the commerce ministry.
As part of the redevelopment plan of Pragati Maidan, a world class Integrated Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre is under construction with an estimated cost of Rs 2,254 crore.
The convention center will have a seating capacity of over 7,000 persons.
"In two years time, it will be ready. We need to market the new complex and use it completely. This complex should be fully utilised. I will work out a clear marketing strategy and plan to make this space fully utilised from Day 1 - September 2019," Goyal told PTI.
He said the organisation may seek help from some private experts in formulating the strategy.
"I have started work on this. The new centre would become a big attraction for global events. I want overseas events to come to this place," he added.
Due to old and inadequate infrastructure including convention centre and parking space, Pragati Maidan is not able to attract overseas events.
Goyal said now they are working to remove all these infrastructural bottlenecks to attract global players.
"The new state of the art infrastructure will address all issues. This venue would become unmatched. We will identify global events which can be organised here," he said adding overseas programmes.
The meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry is huge business across the globe. It helps create jobs and promote tourism sector.
