Leader of Congress in Haryana Assembly Kiran Choudhry today described the Cabinet expansion by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar as a nail in the coffin of BJP's much-touted concept of "minimum government, maximum governance".
With the induction of three ministers and four Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS), it is now "maximum government, minimum governance," the former Excise and Taxation Minister said in a statement here.
"It shows that BJP government which has earned notoriety for going back on its promises and reversing decisions taken by the previous government, has now started rubbishing the very concepts it sold to the people in the run-up to the polls," she said.
The expansion also exposes the double standards of BJP. When in opposition, the party had opposed the appointment of CPS but now Khattar has inducted four CPS in his team, Chaudhary said.
"In fact, the expansion aims at outnumbering CM's critics in the Cabinet with those who can do his bidding. There have been rumblings of opposition borne out of the appointment of Parineeti Chopra as brand ambassador of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Programme. The Cabinet brigade opposing it was led by Health Minister Anil Vij," she added.
She alleged that Haryana government was trying one trick or the other everyday to fool people and the Cabinet expansion was just another tactic to divert the attention of the people from the lack of development work at the ground level.
