Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today visited relief camps of border dwellers who were uprooted by the cross-border firing at Kathua and Samba districts here.
The Governor visited the camps in Hiranagar, Kathua and Samba sectors where he interacted with the displaced people and heard their grievances.
The Deputy Commissioners of Kathua and Samba informed Vohra that all necessary arrangements have been made for providing the basic facilities of housing to the displaced people.
The relief extended to the affected families includes shelter, beddings, food, medicines and other items of daily requirement.
The Governor asked the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made to the people to minimize their hardships, especially in the continuing harsh weather.
As per the army, over 550 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan occurred in 2014, the highest since the Indo-Pak truce came into force in 2003, with the border witnessing the worst such escalation during August to October which left 13 people, including 2 security personnel dead.
Over 32,000 border people were forced to leave their homes and take shelter in camps set up by the government in August and October due to heavy firing and shelling by Pakistani troops along the international border and Line of Control.
