J-K govt approves Rs 15 cr child mortality reduction plan

Jammu and Kashmir government today approved an action plan worth Rs 15.36 crore under the 13th Financial Commission to bring down the child mortality rate in the state.
The plan was approved by a high-level committee on Infant Mortality Reduction (IMR) led by Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan, sources said.
The committee after reviewing the present status of infant mortality rate in the state approved the Rs 15.36 crore action plan for the current financial year under the 13th Finance Commission.
Under the current year action plan Rs 4.08 crore would be incurred on the establishment of sick new neonatal care units, Rs 3.50 crore would be expended on strengthening of Child Health Care interventions, they said.
Rs 1.69 crore would be utilised for strengthening of labour rooms.
The Committee approved Rs 66.00 lakh for special immunisation drive for high focus/drop out areas besides imparting the necessary training to the staff in sick Neonatal Care Units.
The health minister instructed the concerned authorities to ensure proper implementation of IMR action plan for achieving tangible results.
Shabir said the infant Neonatal Mortality rate reduced from 35 to 32 as per Sample Registration System report 2011 in the state.
