J-K govt keen on developing backward areas: Speaker

Jammu and Kashmir government is keen on developing socio-economic status of people living in backward areas, Speaker of Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta today said.
Comprehensive plans were being formulated for enhancing their living standard, he said this during his tour to Sunjwan, Chatta and other far-off areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency.
He said that futuristic, holistic and inclusive infrastructural development of all the regions of the state is high on agenda of the coalition government which "could not be achieved" during past few decades.
Dedicating his victory to the people of Gandhi Nagar, Gupta vowed to keep his commitment of meeting developmental aspirations of the people of his constituency.
He said that a large number of development projects in key sectors like road connectivity, education, health, rural development are in the pipeline.
Gupta asked local residents to constitute a committee to fix the priorities of development works in their respective areas and personally monitor the development works as they are eyes and ears of the government.
Asking people to be part of the sanitation drive under the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan', he said, the Centre is providing assistance of Rs 12,000 for construction of toilets in every household.
