Demanding a judicial inquiry into the Kishtwar clashes, a Congress MLC today sought a through probe in the alleged involvement of a state minister in the matter.
"According to local residents, minister of state for Home Sajjad Kitchloo had allegedly masterminded the attack on minority people. A conspiracy theory has brought him under cloud. All this happened when Kitchloo was present in Kishtwar and his role should be probed," Naresh Gupta, the Congress MLC from Bhaderwah, said in a release here.
"From where did the rioters get guns? Why was curfew not imposed and implemented effectively on time to prevent loss of life and property?" he said.
Gupta sought a judicial inquiry by a high court judge in to the clashes.
He questioned Kitchloo for turning down suggestions of the state administration to impose curfew on Eid day and lashed out at the state government for total "administrative failure" in dealing with communal clashes in Kishtwar.
"We demand a CBI probe into clashes in Kishtwar to bring the culprits to book. It is a pre-planned attack," Choudhary Lal Singh, the MP from Udhampur, told reporters here.
On Friday, clashes between two communities left two people dead and at least 20 injured in Kishtwar district where curfew was clamped and Army called in to assist the local administration in maintaining law and order.
