The Speaker of state Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta today directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to remove all encroachments from land and nullahs in the city.
The Speaker warned that strict action would be taken against encroachers and directed the concerned departments to take adequate steps in this regard.
Gupta also sought public cooperation in this regard and urged people to cooperate with the administration to curb encroachments.
Flanked by Commissioner Jammu Municipality Soujanya Kumar Sharma, the Speaker was talking to the residents while touring his Assembly constituency of Gandhi Nagar today.
During his visit, the Speaker took stock of damages caused by water-logging in various areas due to encroachment of streams.
He directed the Municipality and other concerned departments to remove these encroachments immediately that were causing extensive damage to government and public property and creating hurdles in execution of road projects.
Gupta asked the concerned departments to ensure that all civil works are completed in a time-bound manner.
The Speaker visited Trikuta Nagar and was apprised by the locals about the damage caused due to incessant rains.
He asked the concerned agencies to start restoration work of lanes and drains besides clearing the choked streams so that the road widening and black-topping works could be completed at the earliest and people do not face any inconvenience during rainy season.
