Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department will organise a travel mart next month for attracting tourists to the state, after the sector took a hit due to threat of floods early this month and the deluge last year.
"Tourism Department will organise a Jammu and Kashmir Travel Mart from May 16 to 18 in Srinagar to boost tourism in the state," an official spokesman said after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed here.
The spokesman said about 200 tour operators from across the country and 20 foreign buyers are expected to participate in the travel mart.
Sayeed asked the Director Tourism to offer weekend and golf tourism packages for high-end tourists in the coming season.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that the department will also hold a laser show at Hari Parbat, besides organising cultural shows at Zabarwan Park and Peerzoo on the Jhelum bund as also in Gulmarg and Pahalgam resorts as part of the promotional activities.
During the comprehensive review meeting, Sayeed was appraised about the steps taken for improving the aesthetics and ambience of the summer capital, Srinagar.
Sayeed issued immediate directions to the Power Development Department (PDD) to maintain streetlights in the city, especially focusing on Indira Gandhi, Residency Road, Maulana Azad, Gupkar, Boulevard and Athwajan Roads, as well as the Hazratbal, Dastageer Sahib and Khanqah-e-Moula Shrines in downtown Srinagar.
