Jail escape case: Sub-jail Deputy SP suspended

Heads continued to roll in the jail break case here with the Sub-jail Deputy Superintendent Gurpreet Singh being placed under suspension for alleged dereliction of duty.
Two under-trials lodged in the case had escaped from the jail on December 7.
Jail officials said Rajinder Singh has been given temporary charge in place of Gurpreet Singh.
Jail Superintendent, Central jail, Ludhiana SP Khanna, who is conducting an inquiry into jail escape incident, confirmed that the DSP had been suspended.
Earlier, three head constables of the local Sub-jail Kabul Singh, Harpal Singh and Mangat Singh were placed under suspensionfor alleged dereliction of duty.

City police had earlier booked the three head constables for alleged dereliction of duty.

Police had also booked the three under-trials, including the duo who had escaped, under relevant provisions of the law.
The two under-trials Amandeep Kumar and Rajwinder Singh had escaped after throwing tea and pepper in the eyes of jail staff.
The third under-trial Pawan Kumar, who also tried to escape, was overpowered by jail staff.
