Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal today demanded that the Food Security Act be implemented in Uttar Pradesh, saying that the people of the state had been left out from getting benefits of the central scheme.
Jaiswal today participated in a protest by Congress workers here against the Samajwadi Party government's alleged failure to implement the act.
"The UPA government has brought the Food Security Act for the benefit of the people. But, unfortunately, the benefits are not reaching everyone in the country due to the failure of implementing the act in certain states.
"I appeal to the SP government to implement the food security scheme so that the people of Uttar Pradesh benefit out of it," Jaiswal said.
President of Congress' Kanpur unit, Mahesh Dikshit said they will continue their agitation till the food security scheme was implemented in the state.
