Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been reopened for one-way vehicular traffic after a day long closure in view of heavy snowfall in Ramban and Patnitop stretches of the highway.
The highway was reopened last night and all the stranded vehicles have been cleared from it, traffic police officials said.
The authorities have allowed one-way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar today, they said, adding that no vehicle will be allowed to ply from Kashmir side.
However in view of the heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of the state, traffic police yesterday issued an advisory for people planning to undertake travel on the highway.
According to IGP, Traffic, Jammu, one-way movement of traffic will be in force on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW-1A) from today till further orders.
The advisory was issued in view of slippery conditions of the highway because of rain, snowfall, poor road conditions and triggering of landslides along Jawahar Tunnel-Lower Munda, Jawahar Tunnel-Banihal, Ramsoo-Ramban and Patnitop sectors.
The decision has been taken with a view to ensure safety and security of passengers on NHW-1 and hassle free movement of load carriers.
Under this system, one-way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa will be allowed on the highway on alternate days.
