"I am very much impressed with the approach to science and technology in West Bengal which has produced many scientists and become a source of many leading scientific achievements, Negishi told reporters after a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat.

Negishi, who was awarded the Nobel prize in Organic Chemistry jointly with two other recipients in 2010, said he was also impressed with the vision of the chief minister about inclusion of scientific achievement at the grass-root level for the welfare of mankind.

Negishi, accompanied by two leading German scientists, said, "We are aware of what is happening in the state and the progress of young talent in scientific research work."

Banerjee also discussed the road map for further development of science and technology in the state.

Finance Minister Amit Mitra, who was present during Negishi's meeting with the CM, said Mamata Banerjee briefed the scientist about science and technology in the state.
