Leading Urdu poets from India and abroad, including Japan and the US, are set to enthrall poetry lovers in the national capital when they congregate here to participate in the annual Jashn-e-Bahar mushaira this week.
The 20th edition of the mushaira', organised by non-profit Jashn-e-Bahar Trust, will be held on April 13.
Among the poets, Abdullah Abdullah and Farhat Shahzad will represent the US, while Taqi Abedi from Canada, So Yamane from Japan and Omar Salim Al-aidroos from Saudi Arab will reach Delhi for the poetic soiree.
Eminent Indian poets Wasim Barelvi, Mansoor Usmani, Popular Meeruthi, Laxmi Shankar Bajpai, Shabeena Adeeb, Gauhar Raza, Dipti Misra, Iqbal Ashhar, Manzar Bhopali, Minu Bakshi Sahiba, Rehana Nawab, Liaqat Jafri, and Hussain Haidry will also be participating in the event.
Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj will be the chief guest, while former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi will preside at the literary evening, the event's organizers said.
The mission and aim is to preserve and promote India's syncretic cultural and literary traditions and foster amity and peace through poetry, says Kamna Prasad, founder of the Jashn-e-Bahar Trust.
For the past two decades, Jashn-e-Bahar has strived to provide a platform to showcase Urdu's amazing evolutionary journey in modern times. In this 20th edition of the mushaira, we want to celebrate this beautiful Indian language and its unique literary kaleidoscope at an even larger scale, she adds.
The mushaira will be held at the Delhi Public School, Mathura road.
