Written by Family Guy's Chris Sheridan, the film will be based on the true story of the theft of 10,000 barrels of maple syrup from Quebec's International Strategic Reserve in August 2012, reported Aceshowbiz.
The case is still ongoing, but arrests have been made, revealing that the thieves were smuggling the syrup over the border into the US.
The final season of Segel's 'How I Met Your Mother' launched this week. He will also star in 'Sex Tape' alongside Cameron Diaz, Rob Corddry and Rob Lowe.
Gordon and Segel will produce the maple syrup film with Barry Josephson.
